Chromebooks

Image result for chromebook

We have our Chromebooks!  Students were issued a Chromebook for use at school yesterday in computer lab.  They were able to choose their theme, wallpaper, and profile picture through Google.  They had a lot of fun personalizing their account.

In the next few days, students will learn how to access email, how to manage electronic classwork in Google Classroom, and how to respond through technology.

Students have also learned about our Acceptable Use Policy.  According to this policy, students are to use these Google accounts (including email) only for school use.  Students will not be bringing Chromebooks home.  However, due to our use of Google, they may be able to access work through computers off campus that have Google Chrome as a browser.

This is an exciting time for our class as they learn more about technology!

Thank you!

  • Reading:  We read Amazing Grace.  We worked with identifying story elements and character traits.

  • Social Studies:  We learned that SC is surrounded by NC, Georgia, and the Atlantic Ocean.  There are 50 states, 5 oceans, and 7 continents.  We also learned the directions on a compass rose.  *These skills will be quizzed on Tuesday.

  • Science:  We began learning about environments in general and discussed the idea that environments have both living and nonliving features.

Snacks
Our lunch is from 11:09-11:29 each day.  This is a great lunch time!  It lands at a time when students start to get really hungry.  With this said, students will have the option to bring in a snack to have around 10:30 (we'll be taking it out to recess) if they need a little something before lunch.

Examples of great snack choices would be granola bars, cereal bars, fruit, crackers, pretzels, or Chex mix.

Please do not send candy as a snack.

**Water is wonderful all day everyday!**

All About Arrays

Click on the link for examples of arrays in our real lives!

All About South Carolina

This year's focus in social studies will South Carolina geography and history.  Yesterday, we reviewed directions on a compass rose.  Today, we labeled South Carolina's borders, as well as some key points of interest that we will revisit later during the year.  Please look for these in your child's social studies notebooks.

These notebooks are separate from their binders and will contain important information, notes, maps, etc. that will prepare them for assessments.

Saving Sam

On Monday, students worked in teams to save poor Sam from drowning.  Students had to put Sam back into his boat with his lifejacket on and oar in place without touching him with their bare hands.  It was tough but we learned a lot about cooperation, patience, and perseverance.  Ask your child how their group did!
