Looking Ahead Week of October 29

Looking Ahead
Week of October 29, 2018

ELA:  We will begin learning strategies for nonfiction reading.  We will read a selection from our reading book, Earth Smart.  We will be reviewing what we have learned so far with nouns (common, proper, singular, and plural).  We will also refine our dictionary skills.

Math:  We will begin learning about telling time.
**Please continue working on practicing multiplication facts.**

Social Studies:  We will wrap up our learning about SC Native American groups.  **We will have a test on Thursday.**

Science:  We will begin learning more about deserts and tundras.

Camp Discovery Memories





We learned about bird beak adaptations.
We listened to a read aloud about birds.
We practiced using different "beaks"
 to obtain food.

We met a turtle and learned about its adaptations.

We met a hamster and learned about its adaptations.

We made our own bird beaks.

Getting the right food for your beak can be difficult!
We practiced using our newly crafted "beaks".

We read a chart to learn more about the different kinds of beaks.
 We listened to a story in a cornhouse.
We went on a nature walk.

ELA:  We will begin writing personal narratives.  

Math:  We will wrap up Module 1. We will have a test on Module 1 on Tuesday.

Science:  We will wrap up our learning about forests.  There will be a test on Thursday.

Social Studies:  We will continue our learning about South Carolina Native American tribes.

If you purchase part of the package, you can send payment for what you would like to keep along with the pictures you do not want.  If you would not like to purchase, please send the package back to school so they can be returned.

ELA:  We will continue practicing making inferences.  We will wrap up our work with Stone Soup and test this story on Wednesday, October 17.  This will be an open book test.  We will begin working with personal narratives in writing.  We will work with nouns during our grammar work.

Social Studies:  We will begin learning about South Carolina tribes.

Science:  We will wrap up our learning about forests and rainforests.  We will have a forests/rainforests test on Friday, October 19.

Math:  We will continue working with building foundational skills for multiplication and division.  This is a good time to work on the 2's tables.

Disability Awareness Training



On Friday, we were able to learn about various disabilities that people young and old encounter.  We learned that even with differences, we all can persevere, adapt, and succeed.  We learned a lot!

Looking Ahead Week of October 8-12

ELA:  Students will continue to work on their reading stamina and ability to set goals and interact with what they are reading.  We will work on the skill of inferencing while read Stone Soup.
We will have an adjective quiz on Tuesday.

Math:   We will continue working with multiplication and division, and specifically how to model problems.  We will have a quiz on lessons 7-10 on Friday.

Science: We will continue to learn about forests.

Social Studies:  We will test on SC Regions on Wednesday.
