ELA:  We will wrap up our work with Nacho and Lolita and have a test on Tuesday next week.  We will be working with summarizing techniques as well as theme review.  In writing, we will be exploring various ways to express opinions and provide reasons.  We will continue working with suffixes as well.

Math:  We will continue to work with time.

Social Studies:  We will work to compare and contrast the three tribes that we learned about (Cherokee, Catawba, and Yemassee). We will have a test on Friday.

Science:  We will begin a new unit about forest habitats.

How Do I Study for the Desert/Polar Regions Test?

How Do I Study for the Deserts/Polar Lands Test?

Students need to know what the following means and be able to apply this knowledge to science questions:
food chain
producer 
consumer
herbivore
decomposer
carnivore
omnivore
nocturnal
migration
adaptation
camouflage
characteristics of a hot desert 
characteristics of a cold desert (tundra)
adaptations of animals and plants in the desert and tundra (polar land) regions

Students have notes in their notebooks and binders as well as information in Google Classroom that they can access from home.
**Many of these terms are repeats of what we learned during our grassland unit.  Through class discussions and notes, students should be able to respond to various scenarios and questions**

ELA:  We will begin a new story, Nacho and Lolita.  We will work with theme and summarizing with this story. We will continue to work with suffixes, as well. We will also begin work with persuasive writing.

Math:  We will be wrapping up our mini-unit on place value as well as review basic time skills. 

Science:  We will wrap up our unit on Deserts/Polar Lands (Tundras).  We will have a test on this on Thursday, October 31.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about SC Native Americans.

ELA:  We will continue to work with theme.  We will wrap up our personal narrative unit and begin our opinion writing unit.  We will continue to work with prefixes and suffixes as well as grammar review.

Math:  We will begin a unit based in place value.  We will be learning about comparing and ordering numbers, writing numbers in various forms, and basic addition and subtraction.

Science:  We will be wrapping up our learning about deserts and tundras.

Social Studies:  We will begin a unit on Native Americans.

Today, your child received a reading log for the Reading with the Gamecocks program.  This optional program runs from October 7-21.  


Details:
  • Students log in what they read at home or outside of school.
  • The reading goal for our class is to read as much as they can.
  • Students log in the title, numbrt of pages/books read, and get a parent or guardian signature.
  • Students who participate will receive 2 tickets to a mens' USC basketball game, 2 tickets to a womens' USC basketball game, and free admission to Edventure.

ELA:  We will be publishing a personal narrative!  Students will choose their favorite draft piece and will be using a writer's checklist to plan for their perfect piece.  We will also be learning more about theme. We will have a test on A Castle on Viola Street on Thursday, October 10.  We will also continue working with prefixes and suffixes.

Math:  We will be wrapping up Module 1 in math. We will have a test on Friday, October 11.  Be on the lookout for a Study Buddy that will help you narrow down what types of questions that will be on the test.

Social Studies:   In lieu of a test, we will be completing in class projects using facts we have learned about SC's 6 regions.

Science:  We will continue learning about deserts and begin to learn about tundras.
