Looking Ahead
Week of October 14
ELA: We will continue to work with theme. We will wrap up our personal narrative unit and begin our opinion writing unit. We will continue to work with prefixes and suffixes as well as grammar review.
Math: We will begin a unit based in place value. We will be learning about comparing and ordering numbers, writing numbers in various forms, and basic addition and subtraction.
Science: We will be wrapping up our learning about deserts and tundras.
Social Studies: We will begin a unit on Native Americans.

Reading with the Gamecocks
Read with the Gamecocks
Today, your child received a reading log for the Reading with the Gamecocks program. This optional program runs from October 7-21.
Details:
- Students log in what they read at home or outside of school.
- The reading goal for our class is to read as much as they can.
- Students log in the title, numbrt of pages/books read, and get a parent or guardian signature.
- Students who participate will receive 2 tickets to a mens' USC basketball game, 2 tickets to a womens' USC basketball game, and free admission to Edventure.

Looking Ahead Week of October 7
Looking Ahead Week of October 7
ELA: We will be publishing a personal narrative! Students will choose their favorite draft piece and will be using a writer's checklist to plan for their perfect piece. We will also be learning more about theme. We will have a test on A Castle on Viola Street on Thursday, October 10. We will also continue working with prefixes and suffixes.
Math: We will be wrapping up Module 1 in math. We will have a test on Friday, October 11. Be on the lookout for a Study Buddy that will help you narrow down what types of questions that will be on the test.
Social Studies: In lieu of a test, we will be completing in class projects using facts we have learned about SC's 6 regions.
Science: We will continue learning about deserts and begin to learn about tundras.

Analyzing and Collaborating in ELA
Students worked together to analyze the actions, feelings, sayings, and thoughts of Kojo in the short story, A Tricky Monkey. They are practicing using text to provide evidence and their communication skills to share what they know.
