Looking Ahead 

Week of September 14

Reading:  We will continue our mini-unit on prefixes and suffixes.  We have learned six of each so far.  We will also be working with context clues, shades of meaning, synonyms, and antonyns.  

Math:  We will begin work in our textbook.  We will be learning about various ways to begin thinking about multiplying.

Science:  We will begin learning about land habitats.  

Social Studies:  We will begin thinking about maps and how we use them.

ELA:  We will work with creative writing. We will also learn more about poetry and polish our non-fiction reading skills.

Math:  We will continue learning about fractions in Module 5.

Science:  We will be learning about magnetism and electricity.

Social Studies:  There will be no social studies work next week.

ELA:   We will practice with story elements with The Awesomely Awkward Adventures of Super Pizza.  We will also begin a unit on figurative language.  We will also continue practicing grammar skills.

Math:  We will continue learning about fractions through Module 5.

Science:  There will be no assignments in science this week.

Social Studies:  We will learn about the events leading up to and during the Civil War.

Looking Ahead Week of May 4-8

ELA:  We will wrap up our story, The Awesomely Awkward Adventures of Super Pizza.  We will continue to use this story to address comprehension skills of fictional literature.

Science:  We are learning about matter, changes, of matter, heat, conductors, and insulators.

Social Studies;  There are no social studies assignments this week.

Writing: This week we are working on polishing our grammar/editing skills.

ELA-  We will continue reading The Awesomely Awkward Adventures of Super Pizza while using narrative elements to help us with comprehension. We will also begin learning more about personification.  In writing, we will be writing a narrative. At the end of the week, we will have a writing spotlight whereas students can share their favorite writing.

Math:  We will continue last week's format of Math 4 Today, Reflex, and Problem Sets.

Social Studies:  We will be learning about government.

Science:  We will return to science after this week.

Writing:  Students will be practicing writing informational and opinion writing pieces.

Reading:  Students will begin reading The Awesomely Awkward Adventures of Super Pizza while practicing reading comprehension skills.  Students will also engage in independent reading and reflecting upon their reading.

Social Studies:  Students will learn more about South Carolina rivers and regions.

Science:  Studnets will learn more about white-tailed deer, carolina wrens, and bats.
