Compass Learning

Have you ever heard about Compass Learning? It is a great online program that our students in grades 3-5 have subscriptions for.  It sets practice at your child's level in ELA and math.  Meeting them at their level, as determined by MAP scores in September, students can continue to grow in a fun way.

We have begun to use this as a supplement to our ELA instruction and will soon begin in math.  Feel free to use this resource at home!

Spotlight on Learning
Week of October 24, 2016

ELA:  This week we began planning to write a personal narrative about fall. Students have learned a strategy I call "pick, list, and choose" in which they brainstorm as many words they can about a topic and use sorting to help them determine whether a detail will a be strong or weak component to support the main idea.  They have enjoyed working with this so far. We haven't started the actual writing, and I am already seeing great plans!

We have begun to look at various nonfiction articles to describe text features, main idea, and supporting details.

We also began working with Compass Learning, an online program that helps to meet the needs of each child using videos, practice, and online quizzes.

Math:  We began rounding.  Students will have a quiz on this skill on Wednesday, November 2.

Science:  We ended our rainforest unit.

Social Studies:  We ended our SC Native American unit.
