Week Ahead September 9-13

Week of September 9-13

ELA: This week, we will continue learning about story elements. We will begin analyzing character motives and perspectives.  We will continue working with nouns, verbs, adjectives, and types of sentences.  In writing, we will begin short narrative writing samples.  **We will have MAP Reading testing on Monday, September 9.**

Math:  We will continue writing expressions and equations that match arrays. We will also begin to learn more about the commutative and distributive properties of multiplication.  **We will have MAP Math testing on Tuesday, September 10.**

Science:  We will continue learning about the grassland habitat.  We will extend our learning about the roles of animals in the habitat such as being a producer, consumer, or decomposer.

Social Studies:  We will learn more about continents, oceans, our state, and important city locations within South Carolina.

ELA:  We will continue to work with narrative elements in both writing and reading.  

Math:  We will continue to work with equal groups as a foundation for multiplication study.

Science:  We will continue learning about animal and plant adaptations, especially in the grassland habitat.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about geography basics, especially our place in relation to the world.

Math: We will begin Module 1.  We will be learning about equal groups in multiplication, we will be relating multiplication to the array model, and interpreting the meaning of factors as the size of the group or the number of groups.

ELA:  In writing,we will be trying a variety of creative writing topics.  In reading, we will use the story, Amazing Grace, to learn more about character traits and motives as well as cause and effect.  We will be reviewing nouns, verbs, and adjectives as well.  Lastly, we will begin learning procedures and expectations for independent reading in our classroom.

Science:  We will begin learning about plant and animal adaptations, particularly in the grassland habitat.

Social Studies:  We will begin the year with learning about our location in the world, oceans, continents, and directions on a compass.

Gator Games Was a Success!

ELA: We will continue with The Lemonade War. We are using book club time and class discussion to dig deeper in to the book.

Math:  We will continue to polish our skills with geometry and graphing.

Science:  We will work with heat and magnetism.

Social Studies:  We will learn more about the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement.

ELA: We will begin book clubs, with The Lemonade War as our main selection.  Students will be working independently as well as collaboratively to read and analyze the text.

Math:  SC Ready Math is on Tuesday!

Science:  We will be learning about heat sources and their effects on matter.

Social Studies:  We will be learning about the WWI, the Great Depression, and the Civil Rights Movement.
