Main Idea Bags

Today, we began learning about main idea.  On Friday, students should bring in a bag with 4-6 items that share a common theme, that his or her classmates could label with a main idea. For example, today I showed students a bag with glue, markers, construction paper, and scissors.  After thinking through it, students decided that the bag was mainly about art supplies.

Your child can bring in objects, pictures, or drawings. On Friday we will be playing a game that helps us practice determining main idea of objects with the hope that this practice will help us become experts at finding main idea while reading.

A Couple of Tips:

  • Don't label your bag....we will have to figure it out on Friday!
  • Know the main idea of your bag.  Your items should make sense together and have a common use or theme.
  • You may use a grocery bag if you need it.
  • You can draw pictures, print them, or send the objects in. ***Please do not send breakable or otherwise valuable items to school. Take a picture or draw it instead!**

Amazing Me Day

Amazing Me Day
September 22, 2016

We are looking forward to celebrating our kids at LCEU with Amazing Me Day.  Last week, your child received a green flyer detailing our special home projects that are due on September 22.  Each child at LCEU will be responsible for displaying a poster or trifold about himself or herself that showcases how he or she is so special.

Please have your child share his or her focus by this Friday with me.  This will help us instill the habits of being proactive and beginning with the end in mind.  Thank you to families who have already shared ideas with me.

Does your child like gymnastics? He or she could make a board showcasing talents.
Does your child like to cook?  He or she could display pictures of them doing what they love.

**Students may not bring in animals or food.  You may see these in the video.

Amazing Me Day
September 22, 2016

Be sure to look at this week's Friday folder for a green flyer that describes a wonderful opportunity for our students.

On our first half day, we will participate in a celebration of how each of our students are unique and special.

Students in grades 3-5 have been asked to complete a project at home about themselves.

This can be about anything that makes the student feel amazing (family, culture, hobbies, etc.).

Every child will display their project for others to see.

These projects are due on September 22, 2016.

Parents are welcome to come and take part in our Gallery Walk (times will be available later).
