ELA:  We will continue to work on building skills needed to write a literary analysis.  These skills include inferencing, comparing and contrasting, and providing evidence from text.  We are also reading Revolutionary War on Wednesday as a class in conjunction with our learning about the American Revolution.

Math:  We will continue learning ways to determine area of shapes using counting and multiplication as strategies. We will have a quiz on Thursday.

Science:  We will continue learning about landforms on Earth.

Social Studies:  We will wrap up our learning about the American Revolution. We will have a test on Friday.

ELA:  We will continue working with literary analysis.  So far, students have learned about using characters' contrasts and contradictions as well as their aha! moments to help us better understand text.  We will also continue to work with making inferences both in and out of text.

Math:  We will continue working with area.

Social Studies:  We will learn more about the American Revolution.

Science:  We will review Earth's water features and begin learning about landforms.  Students will have a quiz on water features on Thursday.

Valentines

This year, we will have an opportunity to exchange valentines, if your child is interested!  While we cannot have a party on Valentine's Day, we do set aside a few minutes to exchange valentines.  If your child chooses to participate, I ask that you have a valentine for each student in our class.  We have 20 students.  I will provide a list of names below.  *Some students like to leave the "to" line blank and fill in their name in the "from" space.  I think this is helpful since sometimes the space to write is so small. That is completely up to you.*

ELA:  We will wrap up our learning of text structures.  We will have a test on the reading book selection, Animal Homes, on Friday.We will also work with transition words and analytical writing.

Math:  We will have a test on Module 3 on Tuesday.  We will begin new topic, area, later in the week.

Science:  We will wrap up our learning about rocks.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about the American Revolution.

ELA: We will continue exploring text structures such as cause and effect.  We will also be working with various forms of adjectives.

Math:  We will continue with Module 3, working with parentheses as well as multiplication and division. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday.

Science:  We will be learning about rocks and minerals.

Social Studies:  We will be wrapping up our unit about colonial times. We will have a test on Friday.

Soil Models

This week we made edible soil models using directions and creativity.  Ask your child what they know about sand, silt, clay, and humus!

ELA:  We will be publishing our nonfiction books in class. We will be learning more about text structures that authors use and how these structures help us to remember what we have read.

Math:  We will continue to work with writing algebraic equations with multiplication and division.

Science:  We will have a quiz on soil on Wednesday.

Social Studies:  We will continue to learn about conflict amongst groups in colonial Carolina.
