Spotlight on Learning Week of November 28, 2016

ELA: This week, we working with narrative writing skills. Students are developing their own stories about an animal. They are choosing it's problem, how it will be solved, and from what point of view the reader will be exposed to.  I can't wait to read them!  We have also been working with text dependent analysis (TDA).  We read about why polar bears don't eat penguins and analyzed the passage's vocabulary, structure, and voice.

Math:  We have been working with strategies to memorize multiplication facts as well as writing problems with variables.

Social Studies:  We began learning about the settlement of Carolina.  We learned how the Lords Proprietors encouraged settlement of the area, especially around Charles Town.

Science:  We wrapped up our learning about wetland habitats and we have begun to talk about deserts.  We also had a visit from Diamond Del, getting us excited about our upcoming rocks and minerals unit!
