Spotlight on Learning
Week of January 30, 2017

ELA:  We continued to work on our autobiographies.  Students have been having writing conferences with both me and Ms. Hudson.  It is amazing how much they have grown as writers!  We also continued to learn about figurative language.  So far, we have learned about similes, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and alliteration.  Ask your child about their "SHAMPOO" bottle!

We are also playing an ongoing game of Reading Bingo.  We have challenged our class to branch out and read as many different genres of books as they can.  They have a Bingo board that they are marking as they read a new book!  Students are also sharing what they are reading with their  peers.

On Friday, we were able to connect with Suzanne Selfors, author of many books including the Smells Like Dog series that we are currently reading as a class.  Our class generated questions to ask.  It was a wonderful experience!

Math:  We began our next unit (module) about fractions.

Social Studies:  We continued to learn about the causes of the American Revolution.  Students have learned about the Stamp Act, Tea Act, and Intoloerable Acts.

Science:  We began a new unit about soil.  Students have explored sand, silt, clay, and humus.  Students will have a quiz on Friday, February 10.
