We had a great week!  Check out what we were learning!

ELA:
We learned about text features (title, headings, bullets, bold print, italics, diagrams, labels, captions, photographs, and sidebars).  Text features help us to gain meaning from text.

We also began learning about author's purpose.  In particular, we learned about persuasive text.  One of the books we read was I Wanna Iguana.  In this text, a boy and his mother exchange notes in regards to his request for a pet iguana.
Math:
We continued learning about how to set up equal groups and represent those groups with repeated addition and multiplication sentences.  We also modeled these with areas and other drawings.  We continued a spiral review for our morning work of various skills like rounding, problem solving, and geometry.
Social Studies:
We learned about geography.  We used Google Earth and other maps to help us understand where we are in the world.  Students learned about continents, oceans, and areas in and around South Carolina.  We also learned the directions on the compass rose.  We will have a quiz on Friday, September 8.
Science:  We learned about process skills scientists use to explore our world.
