Spotlight on Learning
Week of November 14, 2016
- ELA: This week we learned more about text features that help us understand what we are reading. Some of these include bold print, bullets, headings, and charts. We also published our first full personal narrative about what we like about fall. They have turned out great! For this piece, we worked on organizing our thoughts, using transition words, and using vivid words. We even used a thesaurus!
- Math: We reviewed Module 2 which included time, rounding, adding, and subtracting. We also began timed tests (not in grade book) to help us memorize our facts! We are working through this at your child's pace. Therefore, students could be working on different times tables. Our goal is to memorize through the 12s tables. Currently, students are using both games and auto-scored quizzes on www.multiplication.com to help them in a fun way. Flashcards are another great way to review.
- Social Studies: We wrapped up our explorer unit. We have learned about Hernando De Soto, Jean Ribault, Juan Pardo, William Hilton, and Dr. Henry Woodward. We worked on an in-class project to review these explorers. Ask your child about their paper slide shows!
- Science: We learned about estuaries, salt marshes, rivers, and streams.
